Gamespy Emulation is Shutting Down June 20th, 2017 @ 12:47AM ET

Well, I started off this evening shutting Qtracker down.

After playing Ark for a bit, clearer heads have prevailed and I'm just shutting down my Gamespy emulation. Unfortunately the minority is ruining it for the majority and my Gamespy servers have been the target of many attacks within the past few years. This has resulted in downtime, lots of wasted money, countless wasted hours (that could've went towards the new version of Qtracker), and tons of stress.

So, all of Qtrackers Gamespy emulation servers will be shut down on 8/1/2017. This should give mod authors plenty of time to move to other solutions.

Qtracker 4.95 Alpha 1 Released June 10th, 2016 @ 04:57PM ET

At long last there's finally a new version of Qtracker available! If you were kind enough to register Qtracker, make sure you download your copy today! A public release will follow in the next 30-60 days.

Minecraft Server December 27th, 2014 @ 02:07PM ET

Qtracker has a Minecraft server at 63.144.111.249!

The server is intended to be for more relaxed play. No stealing, griefing, trolling, destroying other peoples property, or generally making other people unhappy. Help each other out, have fun, and explore.

Website coming soon for it...

Daikatana 1.3 and Gamespy Update June 6th, 2014 @ 08:30AM ET

Diakatana 1.3 has been released in beta form for those of you still enjoying this game. Amongst all the other changes, this release uses Qtracker as it's Master server so Daikatana will be immune to the Gamespy shutdown.

Head on over to DaikatanaNews.net and get updated today!

In Gamespy news, I've finally resolved the issue that was preventing me from displaying players and server rules to the in-game browser for games like Crysis and Battlefield 2. I also resolved an issue that was causing no servers to appear in the in-game browser for Vietcong. I'm still testing a bunch of other changes, so I haven't made any of this live yet but will hopefully later today.

Public Server Listings May 29th, 2014 @ 03:20PM ET

To help consolidate efforts for all the various application authors out there having to deal with the Gamespy shutdown, I've made all of the Qtracker server listings public.

I don't want things to be like they were before where there's tons of private server listings that are all accessed in different ways or cannot be accessed at all. Qtracker still can't support most of the newer games because everything's private these days. Such a shame.

Anyways, I'm not going to start ranting against game developers going against their roots and against gamers themselves, but I'm also not going to be part of the problem by keeping my data private.

Gamespy Shutdown May 16th, 2014 @ 12:51PM ET

Wow it's been awhile since I've put any news on the site, or released a new version of Qtracker. Rest assured, there is a new version in the works, but in the meantime the gaming world is in crisis mode as Gamespy is shutting down.

I believe I have a solution to that problem.

Click here for instructions on how to change your computer or servers configuration to bypass Gamespy and use the Qtracker Master servers instead. My instructions stink, so if anyone can come up with anything better please forward it on to me and I may post them.

You'll notice the listing of games is rather small at the moment. I'm working to add more games every day, but if you don't see your favorite game head on into the forums and drop me a line to make certain it's on my to-do list.

Enjoy!

Database Maintenance March 8th, 2013 @ 09:52AM ET

I'm migrating the databases to a faster environment, so expect a few minutes of downtime today. This will effect the website, forums, and retrieving server listings. I'm starting at 10:00AM ET, and it should only last 5-15 minutes.

Downtime June 7th, 2011 @ 02:39PM ET

The web servers were down for a day and a half. It took me a bit to figure out what the issue was, and I restarted the database servers several times while I debugged things. While the database servers were down you would not have been able to retrieve servers using Find Internet Games. Everything's working great now and I know exactly what the issue was, so we shouldn't see a repeat performance.

Qtracker 4.92 Released November 5th, 2010 @ 03:00PM ET

Wow, has it really been this long since I released a new version? Many apologies to all of you out there, I promise it won't happen again. So much to do to get things back on track, but rest assured Qtracker is NOT dead. There have been many, many changes in my life and lots of turmoil, but I think things may finally be on course once again and so I bring you the long awaited version 4.92 so I can begin working on the super-secret 5.0! Go forth and game!

Qtracker 4.91 Released August 24th, 2009 @ 10:00PM ET

Well, well, well, it would appear there's been a major bug lurking in 4.9 that only effected certain system configurations. This bug would cause Qtracker to stop querying while refreshing servers and you would not be able to query anymore until you exited the program. Unfortunately the program would hang in memory and you had to kill the process. This bug has been squished!. Sorry about that.

This release adds support for Far Cry 1 and Killing Floor, and it also adds a bunch of user requested features and fixes some issues.

Later tonight or tomorrow, Qtracker owners will have access to a new release that adds support for America's Army 3 and Wolfestein. You know you want it!

Qtracker 4.9 Released March 19th, 2009 @ 10:00PM ET

The wait is finally over!

Call of Duty: World at War... Crysis: Wars... Left 4 Dead...

Do I even need to say more? I do?! Okay, as always this release is chock-full of enhanced chewy goodness and bug-fixes aplenty! Drooling yet?

So go get it already!

Call of Duty: World At War/Left 4 Dead Support Added December 4th, 2008 @ 03:21PM ET

An update is available for users who have purchased Qtracker. If you haven't been following my work log, this update adds support for Call of Duty: World At War, Crysis Wars, Iron Grip: Warlord, Left 4 Dead, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

If you're not happy with the in-game browser for any of these games, or would just like to take advantage of Qtracker's functionality for these games, make certain to purchase Qtracker and get your copy today!

A public release will follow sometime after the holidays.

Version 4.8 Released + Save Qtracker! August 28th, 2008 @ 11:29PM ET

It's so nice to finally release this version to the public. 8 months in the making, I bring you the bigger-badder-better version of Qtracker.

The list of changes is absolutely huge! So just download it and enjoy. Vista users should really appreciate this version, as hopefully all Vista-related issues have been resolved. UAC will still be a thorn in my side for a few more releases.

Please keep in mind, I'm still looking for a free hosting solution for the Qtracker web server and Qtracker Master Network that keeps Qtracker running seamlessly for all of you.

And oh yeah, I'm seriously looking for a job. Please see the news item below and help out if you can! Thanks.

Qtracker Needs Your Help! August 25th, 2008 @ 09:44AM ET

Qtracker is in dire need of your help! The company that currently hosts Qtracker for free is going out of business in less than 3 weeks. This means Qtracker needs a new home! Do you run an ISP? Have spare bandwidth? Spare servers? Spare rack space? Are you cool? If you answered yes to any of these questions and want to help save Qtracker, email me immediately!

In related news, I (the author of Qtracker) happen to work for the very same company that's going out of business. So I need a job!

If you're in the market for an IT Director, Systems/Network Architect, VC++ Programmer, server/network administrator, and all around great guy with over 15 years experience, then look no further! Or maybe you just want to pay me to work exclusively on Qtracker?! Again, email me if you're interested.

4.8 Coming Soon July 17th, 2008 @ 05:00PM ET

The next release is only about a week away... I hope you're ready for it!

Version 4.7 Released January 30th, 2008 @ 08:45PM ET

The version that everyone's been waiting for (well at least those of you who haven't purchased Qtracker yet). Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare support is here! And oh yeah, Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3 too. :)

Please note that until the next UT3 patch you will be unable to join UT3 retail servers using any external server browser.

There's so much new in this version, I won't even attempt to describe it. Just download it; you know you want to.

Call of Duty 4/Crysis/UT3 Support Added November 27th, 2007 @ 11:26AM ET

An update is available for users who have purchased Qtracker. This update adds support for the insanely popular Call of Duty 4, as well as Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3.

If you're a Call of Duty 4 player and want more than the in-game browser offers, this version of Qtracker is for you.

A public release will follow sometime after the holidays.

Version 4.6 Released October 30th, 2007 @ 10:00PM ET

After long last it's here: the version that adds support for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Do you really need to know more?

The new Friends system added to this release sets the stage for on-line presence, instant messaging, friend and global invites, and tons more into the next release. I hope you're ready...

Okay, time for me to go jam it out in Guitar Hero III to celebrate the release of 4.6.

Version 4.52 Released May 10th, 2007 @ 09:42PM ET

A critical bug has cropped up in 4.51 which causes Qtracker to lock up while it's launching, and even pegs your CPU between 50% and 100%. I call that stress-testing.

Version 4.52 is now available to resolve this issue. Plus as an added bonus, you get support for the Half-Life 1 WON2 network. Get yours while supplies last!

Anyways, I'm off to finish the new friends features. Registered users will be enjoying this very soon...

Qtracker 4.51 Released April 12th, 2007 @ 10:00PM ET

Woohoo! It hasn't even been a month and here we are again: a new release! This version adds support for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and World of Padman, plus there are lots of enhancements and bug fixes. Enjoy!

The next release should bring about some much needed enhancements to the PlayerWatch window and the Games & Folders pane. More on that later though...

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl Support March 27th, 2007 @ 11:59PM ET

A new version of Qtracker is available only to registered users that supports S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. A public release will follow in the next few weeks.

Version 4.5 Released March 15th, 2007 @ 09:38PM ET

At long last, Version 4.5 is here. There are many, many user requested features in this update, the most important being able to see players, mapshots, and rules for the selected server in the application window.

You'll also find support added for Alien Arena, Armed Assault, Urban Terror 4.x and ioUrbanTerror. Urban Terror 4.x is still in development and should be released soon. Please visit their website for more information.

Some users are reporting problems applying the 4.5 update using the Qtracker AutoInstaller. After downloading a "No File Present" message appears. This was a timing problem with the release and is no longer an issue. However, if you were effected by this issue, please download the 4.5 update directly, or re-run Qtracker and download the update again.

I hope you enjoy this release. A lot of time went into it. I want to get back into the once a month release schedule after this, however there are some big features coming up, so that may not happen.

Armed Assault Support February 18th, 2007 @ 10:27PM ET

A new version of Qtracker is available only to registered users that supports Armed Assault. If you haven't registered yet, what are you waiting for? A public release will follow in the next 20-30 days.

Scheduled Downtime December 7th, 2006 @ 08:00AM ET

On Saturday, December 9, 2006 we will be installing an additional fibre connection to increase bandwidth and add redundancy.

The maintenance window is from 4:00PM ET until 10:00PM ET. Downtime is expected to only be a few hours.

During this time you will not be able to access the Qtracker website, however you should still be able to retrieve server listings. You may get an error about a Master being unreachable, if so just try Find Internet Games again.

Qtracker 4.4 Released October 19th, 2006 @ 10:28PM ET

Battlefield 2142, anyone? Nah, this one isn't going to be popular at all... ;p

Qtracker 4.4 is here to help you frag a little easier at night, complete with Battlefield 2142 support for the demo and retail versions.

If that weren't enough, there are over 400 new regions to help you filter down your server listings, complete with country flag icons that appear next to the servers.

It slices! It dices! Yes, there's a huge list of changes that I won't list here, but I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Here are the Release Notes for those that are interested.

Get out of here, you've got fragging to do!

Battlefield 2142 & Qtracker v4.4 October 16th, 2006 @ 01:00PM ET

Battlefield 2142 is almost upon us...

If you're a registered Qtracker user, then you've been enjoying Battlefield 2142 Demo support since the day the Demo was released. If you're not registered yet, what are you waiting for? Register your copy of Qtracker.

Registered users will have access to the final version 4.4 build with Battlefield 2142 Retail support tomorrow evening (10/17), provided my copy shows up in the mail on time... For everyone else, version 4.4 will be released on Thursday (10/19).

Frag on soldiers!

Battlefield 2 v1.3 & Qtracker v4.22 May 26th, 2006 @ 12:09AM ET

The boys over at Dice just can't make up their mind with the Battlefield 2 v1.3 patch.

The v1.3 patch introduced a change to the query protocol to help prevent DDoS attacks. While Qtracker had no problem with this new query protocol, it appears that the in-game browser didn't fare so well.

Today the query protocol change was rolled back and there's currently a 50/50 split of old and new format servers. This probably won't last forever though. You can read more about this here.

With the Qtracker v4.22 release you can enjoy both new and old format servers without having to worry about all this mumbo-jumbo. There are currently over 6800 active Battlefield 2 servers in the Qtracker Masters....

Sooo get fragging soldiers!

Network Update and 4.2 Info May 5th, 2006 @ 08:15AM ET

Version 4.2 is nearly completed. Wow, it's been a long time coming. It will be worth the wait though, as you'll soon find out when you get your hands on it next week... In the meantime, click on the screenshot for a peek at the new filter browser and themes in action...

The Qtracker network has undergone a few upgrades recently that you may be interested in:

  • www.qtracker.com is now a load-balanced server farm.
  • All 3 US Qtracker Masters are back on-line, with more on the way.
  • Each Qtracker Master now has redundant Internet connections with automatic failover.
  • All back-end processes are now monitored to ensure 24/7 availability.

  • These upgrades are to prepare for some new features that are in the works... I'll leave it at that.

The release of 4.2 will be the start of a more aggressive development cycle as my goal is to release a new version once a month. This should keep things fresh and moving forward. Hey maybe I'll even finish the website...

That's all for now, see you next week!

    Network Downtime on 3/18/2006 March 17th, 2006 @ 05:35PM ET

Due to network upgrades the Qtracker web servers will be intermittently unavailable on Saturday March 18, 2006 from 7:00PM ET until 3:00AM ET. I apologize for the inconvenience, but it's necessary to add redundancy to the network and to increase uptime and bandwidth.

I will be using this time to test how the Qtracker client reacts to the servers being unavailable and will make the necessary adjustments to the application to minimize the effect for future versions.

Updated:The off-site Masters are on-line so you shouldn't notice any downtime during the outage, with the exception of the web servers.

    Qtracker 4.11 Released! November 10th, 2005 @ 11:35PM ET

This release fixes three major bugs that slipped into 4.1: Quake 4 query crashing, the inability to connect to a F.E.A.R. server, and server refreshes that would just die part way through. I've snuck Star Wars Battlefront II support into this release, plus a few new features. I hope you enjoy the release, and as you can tell from the screenshot I'm almost done with the Quake 4 Mapshot Pack. Expect that tomorrow. Frag on!

    Qtracker 4.1 Released! November 3rd, 2005 @ 11:20PM ET

Alright, I think I took a long enough break and am all rested up. For your gaming pleasure I bring you a new release!

I will be releasing another version shortly to add Star Wars Battlefront 2 support, as well as a few more features to tide you over for a bit. Also, expect me to finally get off my duff and release more Mapshot Packs; I know you want 'em.

    Qtracker 4.01 Released w/ Battlefield 2 Support June 23rd, 2005 @ 10:34PM ET

You know you want it... Yup, Battlefield 2 support is finally here. It's absolutely amazing how many servers this game already has (over 3000 at this very moment).

Anyways, unfortunately both Battlefield 2 and the Battlefield 2 Demo have a nasty little bug in them which prevents Qtracker from connecting you to a game server. Dice informs me that they will have this fixed in the first Battlefield 2 patch. Hopefully it won't be very long before it's released.

    Have fun!

    Qtracker 4.0 Released! June 17th, 2005 @ 12:18AM ET

It's finally out. Go forth and play.

There's a ton of Mapshot Pack updates being prepared, so get your butt out of here and start fragging, then in a few days come back and get some Packs.

    4.0 Release Date June 14th, 2005 @ 09:49PM ET

Just a heads up that I plan on releasing Version 4.0 late this Thursday (6/16) evening. It's been a long time coming, so I hope you're ready...

    April Fools Update April 2nd, 2005 @ 12:12AM ET

I hope everyone enjoyed my little April Fools joke. I tried; it was weak, I know. Never fear, Qtracker's not going anywhere.

As promised (late as always), here's a screenshot from the new server window in v4.0. More astute readers will notice a nifty new tab... Hint, hint... Once that tab's completed, I'm moving to Beta and then who knows what might happen.

    More shots to follow soon...

    4.0 Update March 19th, 2005 @ 12:11AM ET

Wow it's been a long time since I've updated the news. Sorry, but things have been really crazy since Christmas.

As I'm sure you've noticed, Christmas came and went and 4.0 wasn't released. I blame Resident Evil 4, mainly. The game is amazing. Survival horrors games finally got good. Anyways, RE4 sucked up nearly all of my free time, and as you already know I don't have much of that to begin with. But from the Release Notes, I'm sure you can see I've still been pretty busy with Qtracker.

Oh well, 4.0 will be worth the wait. I'll post a few screenshots over the weekend to whet your appetite.

With the forthcoming Half-Life 2 query protocol update, expect 4.0 to be out the door very soon.

    4.0 Alpha? December 13th, 2004 @ 08:46PM ET

Ooops. It seems that I made a slight oversight in the new latest download feature that allowed everyone to see the 4.0 alpha release I just put up.

Enjoy it if you got it. If you missed it, well... Look around the forums...

Anyways, 4.0 is coming along fairly well. All the major GUI changes are in so I'm on to the last new features and it'll be out before Christmas.

Half-Life 2 is making development difficult as the game is so damned good. Oh well, back to the grind for a few so I can go play s'more.

    Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Mapshot Pack December 2nd, 2004 @ 08:41PM ET

To add to your toilet fragging excitement, the Half-Life 2 Mapshot Pack is now ready for your viewing pleasure. Too bad it's only two maps... For now.

Much to my surprise Qtracker already supported Half-Life 2 when it came out. I guess I missed the news that CS: Source was all there was for multiplayer. Anyways, as you've probably already noticed, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch magically appeared in Qtracker a few days ago for you. Merry Christmas.

Qtracker 4.0 is nearing RC status. The GUI is getting a major re-work, so it's taking time to get it all right.

Oh well, go fling a few radiators for me while I code.

    Half-Life 2 Unlocked November 16th, 2004 @ 08:07AM ET

The day of reckoning is finally upon us. Half-Life 2 is here. I will be releasing Qtracker 4.0 on Thursday night, since most of you will be playing single-player anyways for a few days. Qtracker already supports Half-Life 2, so I will be adding servers in later today so you can start playing and hopefully everything will work and you won't have to wait until Thursday.

    New Website! November 11th, 2004 @ 11:24PM ET

Woof! Like my new digs? I sure hope you do. I really stink at PHP, but enjoy the fruits of my labor. Which of course took away from Qtracker development time.

So in preparation for the upcoming 4.0 release, I give you my new website.

Looking for a 4.0 teaser? Click here

I'm still missing a few sections like the QtUplink, Product Info, Help, and LAN Party! sections. I'll finish them up after 4.0 is released, but feel free to use the old links I supplied.

    Version 3.82 Released! October 2nd, 2004 @ 12:29AM ET

Been awhile, eh? I've been busily working on the new Qtracker website, which I was hoping to have ready for this release...

But since you just couldn't wait any longer, v3.82 is here.

Star Wars Battlefront support was in this release, but I had to pull it since the game is nearly impossible to connect to from the command line. You either get server full errors, password required errors, or nothing. I think out of the 300+ times I tried to connect from the command line, I only successfully connected once.

Oh well, when they patch that I'll add support back in.

Enjoy the new release, I'm getting back to the website...

    Version 3.81 Released! August 6th, 2004 @ 02:22AM ET

As you may have noticed, your Qtracker 3.8 won't actually download 3.81 from the "New Version Available" dialog. This is fixed in 3.81.

Click here to download the 3.81 upgrade.

Guess what else this version does? Doom 3? Maybe! Get fraggin'!

    Version 3.8 Released! August 1st, 2004 @ 03:51AM ET

It's finally here. Doom 3. And oh yeah, version 3.8 too.

I've focused extensively on the new user experience in this version to ensure that persons new to Qtracker will have no problem figuring out how to use the program. Which means there's actually a tutorial included in the install now.

Full documentation is in the works, as is the new site design. I've been spending a lot of time in the forums, hence why the site news hadn't been updated in such a long time.

Anyways, I'll stop rambling since it's late. This version packs in a ton of changes and new stuff which I hope you'll all enjoy. Expect another new version in a few days when Doom 3 hits the streets.

    Forums December 30th, 2003 @ 09:40PM ET

The Qtracker Forums are now on-line.

Life's been really hectic with the holidays as of late, and plus someone close passed away. So I haven't had much time to devote to Qtracker.

Rest assured though that there will be a new version released very soon which adds support for U2XMP, plus adds a new feature or two.

The new site design is coming along fairly well. I hope to unveil it in the next few weeks.

Go forth to the Forums and talk, make suggestions, get help from other users, and just have a good time. Enjoy.

    Version 3.6 Released! August 18th, 2003 @ 01:29PM ET

Wow, I never thought I'd get this release out. Elite Force II support has been in since the game came out, however I got too caught up in re-writes to get it out the door in a timely fashion.

Music support is fixed in this release, however I haven't finished with the Masters. In the next few days expect the Find Music feature to once again return music servers.

Anyways, there's lots of nifty little enhancements in this release. Just download it and enjoy.

You probably haven't noticed, but I migrated to a new web server around a month ago. The new box is a lot faster than the last one, and will give me a good foundation to begin work on the new site design.

Hmm, what else... Battlefield 1942 support was nixed by Dice due to some last-minute problems. Raven Shield support has been shelved until its developers respond to me again. And numerous other games are in limbo due to similar issues. Sigh.

In contrast, everyone at Valve is, of course, extremely responsive and Qtracker will have no issues supporting Half-Life 2 when it's released. Will you be playing any other games after that comes out? Didn't think so...

On a lighter note, it's my birthday today, so enjoy the release.

And finally, I'm nearing completion of my Qtracker SDK for game developers... No details as of yet as to what this entails.

    AA:O Mapshots Released! May 23rd, 2003 @ 11:52PM ET

At long last, I've finished the America's Army: Operations Mapshot Pack. Swing by the Mapshots download section and pick up a copy...

There's not much else to report as I haven't had much time to work on Qtracker as of late. The current release is extremely stable, so I have begun working on the new site design for the new server. And yes, the new site will actually include on-line documentation and forums. What a concept...

Oh, and I think it's ok to let the cat out of the bag... The next Battlefield 1942 patch will add support for Qtracker by integrating with the Qtracker Masters so you'll have a real-time updated listing of servers. I'm working to get more game developers to support Qtracker in this fashion, and will have a developers SDK available soon to help facilitate this.
